Verrucae are a benign viral lesion which infect the outer layer of the skin. 90% of people carry Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) as part of their normal skin biome. Verrucae occur when the individual’s immune system fails to recognise this virus and keep it in check.
While verrucae can be spread between people by being barefoot in communal areas such as swimming pools and changing rooms, it’s important to understand that having a verruca does not mean you are dirty! These are harmless lesions and do not represent a lack of cleanliness in the affected person, only that your immune system hasn’t yet met this particular virus before.
Verrucae tend to be more common in children/teens as up until the age of 22, our immune system is still developing. They are also common in those who are immunocompromised due to medication or an existing autoimmune disease.
It’s also very important to understand that verrucae in children and teens can self-resolve if left untreated.
However, if the verruca is causing significant pain or embarrassment, then help is available at Feet First.

Falknor`s needling procedure is an innovative and largely effective treatment for verrucae. The aim is to break down the verruca tissue and create a controlled inflammatory response and stimulate your body’s immune system to recognise the virus and destroy it.
The treatment has been around for over 45 years and is used routinely with great success by practitioners internationally.
Falknor's Needling is performed under local anaesthetic, which may involve one or more injections to fully numb the area.
Once numb, any overlying hard skin is reduced and a sterile needle is used to repeatedly puncture the verruca tissue.
A light dressing and protective padding are applied after the procedure and should be kept clean and dry for 24 hours.
Follow-up appointments are usually arranged at 1 week and 8 weeks to monitor healing and assess the outcome.
While Falknor's Needling can be very effective, no verruca treatment is guaranteed to work in every case, and recurrence is always possible.
Not suitable for children under 16, or for individuals with significant circulatory issues.
Verrutop® is a topical treatment used for verrucae that works by breaking down the infected skin
tissue containing the virus.
The treatment is quick and generally well tolerated, with the solution applied directly to the verruca
during your appointment.
In the days and weeks following treatment, the affected skin gradually dries out as the body’s immune system is encouraged to recognise and fight the virus. Over time, the verruca should reduce in size and eventually resolve. Some verrucae respond quickly, while others may require several
treatments depending on their size, duration, and how resistant they are.
Treatment is usually carried out over up to 6 sessions, spaced 10–14 days apart. Any hard skin is removed before application to allow the solution to penetrate the verruca more effectively.
Verrutop® is not suitable for children under 6 years of age, or for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have significant circulatory problems.

"I had a great experience at Feet First. I was seen at short notice, everything was organised quickly and efficiently over email with no hassle whatsoever. Romy was a complete pro, her clinic is super clean and comfortable and she made the whole experience enjoyable from start to finish. And the most important thing of all, my feet feel brand new! Would highly recommend Feet First."
"Romy was lovely and made me feel very comfortable with her, she took great care to find out what my needs and problem areas were then carefully treated them always explaining what she was doing.
My feet feel so much better and I have my spring back in my step. Well worth the visit."
"Had a really good experience here for foot care. Romy was friendly, professional, and made me feel comfortable the whole time. Everything was explained clearly and my feet felt so much better after. The place was clean and well run. Would definitely recommend!"
"This was my first experience of podiatry.Romy made me feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed. We discussed my concern and she was very thorough in checking my feet.
She explained everything clearly and alleviated my concern. She provided me with honest advice, that I don’t need any further appointments at this time, and just to monitor the situation.
I left feeling very reassured and positive. She will be my ‘go to’ for anything foot related in the future and I would highly recommend her"
"Another great visit to see Romy (AKA Miracle Worker!), five days after Kilt Walk 24 & a 5k recovery exercise I am all sorted once again! If you have ever thought about this treatment then do it!!! Lovely comfortable relaxed setting & great chat!! It was by chance I came across Romy & I have never looked back! Feet always feel amazing."
"Really easy and stress free to book in with Romy. She was really kind and friendly, which put me at ease as I was quite nervous about the injections for having my toe nail removed (had a bad experience in the past). Romy explained everything thoroughly, took her time and completed the procedure with professionalism and care. If I were ever to have any future issues this is where I’d go 100%."

Podiatrists are tertiary educated clinicians, trained to assess, manage and treat conditions affecting the foot and ankle. Our aim is to improve patient mobility, independence and quality of life by using evidence-based treatment and advice.
If you have any issues that involve your foot or ankle, such as a sports injury, ingrown toenail, or problems with your skin, you should contact a podiatrist. A podiatrist is a specialist in the management and treatment of foot and ankle pathologies.
A podiatrist can remove the ingrown portion of the nail, and if ingrown nails are a chronic problem, your podiatrist can carry out a procedure to permanently prevent ingrown toenails.
A podiatrist can usually diagnose the cause of foot pain, offer advice and come up with a treatment plan.
All routine podiatry management is perfectly safe to have whilst pregnant.
I am currently on annual leave to get married! I will return on Monday 26th February, when all enquiries will be responded to.
Thanks for your patience,
Romy
